Our tour starts early, ensuring we cover significant ground each day. Despite some hiking parts, most of the trip has transportation by car. Each step brings us closer to the lost city. We’ll traverse part of the Salkantay trek.

Prepare for a unique adventure that culminates in the city of the Incas. Visit the Peruvian jungle and discover its archeological sites. Enjoy the Cocalmayo thermal baths in Santa Teresa.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1 Cusco - Lucmabamba

Machu Picchu Holiday Tours will start the Llactapata Trek with a pickup from Cusco.
Our first destination is the Town of Santa Teresa. Santa Teresa is a small town 6 hours away from Cusco by car.

After lunch, relax in the hot springs of Cocalmayo (Santa Teresa). After this we will continue.

The Llactapata trek takes place in the last stretch of the Salkantay trek to Machu Picchu. The final destination of the day is Lucmabamba’s campsite.

  • Altitude: Starts at 3,400 m, ends at 2,000 m
  • Distance covered: 215 km/ 133.6 miles by car
  • Main places visited: Cusco, Abra de Málaga, Santa Teresa, Lucmabamba

After breakfast, we will take the hike to Llactapata. From Llactapata you can observe Machu Picchu mountain. You experience multiple archaeological sites. The hike will take 3 hours.

The descent from Llactapata to Hydroelectric Station takes a couple of hours. Lunch will be enjoyed in the Station. Then we will walk for 3 more hours before reaching Aguas Calientes to rest for the night at a hotel.

  • Altitude: Starts at 2,000m, ends at 2,100m
  • Distance covered: 14 km/ 8.7 miles hiking
  • Main places visited: Llactapata, Hydroelectric Station, Aguas Calientes.

The final day begins early. After breakfast in Aguas Calientes. Visitors finally trek to Machu Picchu. You will visit the citadel with a guided tour, after which you will have some time to explore solo.

Eventually the Journey reached the end. So we will go back to Aguas Calientes.The journey concludes with a train ride back to Ollantaytambo, and them Cusco.

On some occasions, these conditions may demand us to deviate from our original schedule, in which case we will provide the best available alternative options. And we’ll make a great experience of it! However, some extra expenses may be incurred, these extra expenditures will be covered by the client in their totality and not by MACHU PICCHU HOLIDAY.
